Everyday Brokenness
A famous theologian once said, “Do or do not. There is no try.” Just kidding. While Yoda may not have been a theologian in the slightest, his words hold true in our society today.
“Just Do It.”
“Lead, Follow, or get out of the way.”
“Go Big or Go Home.”
All these and so much more are etched into our communities, families, and media. Yet, despite its all-encompassing nature, we are merely trying to get by. Especially in our Christian walk.
Beloved, this is going to be harsh. So please understand, this is as much for me as it is for you.
The Day to Day Routine
We have become so entrenched in the day to day routine of life, that we have lost His Will and our way. We keep trying to get involved in the process of trying to fix things within our society that we are not addressing its primary need for Jesus the Christ, Son of the Living God.
Many moons ago, my father taught me something about car maintenance. He said (and I paraphrase), when your “something” in your car breaks, it will not run as it is intended to. This will cause other things to break, causing you to fix everything else before you can get to what originally broke. Brothers and sisters, our main issues are not gun violence, broken homes, and racial/income inequality.
The Issue: Brokenness
We live in a broken world, it has been broken for quite a while. We are so behind in addressing it, we are trying to regulate and work with broken systems that do not address the original sickness. We say things like, “we need to make things safer for our children,” and “I should be able to defend my family from any intruder.” Yet, sin intrudes into our homes and makes things far more unsafe than any weapon.
Humanity, is so blinded to the sin issue that Jesus needed to come at a time when NO ONE was looking for Him. Observe all other “faiths” and we will see that all they do is exhibit the idea of works with an uncertainty of being able to get into heaven. Look at us now getting involved in a broken political machine to try and come to a compromise where everyone is safe and happy. Beloved this notion is nothing how we are supposed to behave.
Jesus says, “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:37-39)
Jesus is our Solution
Our solutions are not found in the process of social means. Nor can they be found in a world that is broken. Jesus, provided the fix, “Repent, believe, the kingdom is at hand.” That’s right, the Gospel.
Who would’ve thought? Addressing the original problem is how we get this done. Repent, do or do not. Believe, do or do not. Why? Judgment draws near.
Should we worry about what can happen? Losing our homes? Division of families? Exiled from social communication? Really?
Whatever happened to, “to live is Christ and to die is gain?” Why are we so scared, when Jesus says, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Jesus spoke in the upper room and said, “And when He (the Holy Spirit who lives in us) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
Beloved, this world needs to hear that it stands at the forefront of judgment and it will not be forestalled. Also, we need to remember His will and fulfill his commission. For we ourselves will be held accountable, “of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more…”
Brothers and sisters, we have one role to play in this great spiritual upheaval and that is to proclaim the Gospel and guide those who have acknowledged the truth toward God.
This is what we must do. There is no try.
