What Happens After We Die?

“Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” —John 5:24 (NASB1995)
Have you ever thought about what happens to us when we die? It’s a question people have wondered about for a long, long time. Some stories make it seem scary, but the Bible tells us something very different—something full of hope!
The Bible says that life doesn’t really end when our bodies stop working. Instead, it talks about something called “eternal life.” That means our souls, the part of us that makes us who we are, keep on living forever. God made us this way because He loves us so much and sees us as super valuable.
When we die, our bodies might wear out or break down, but our souls don’t. Jesus even came from Heaven to show us how amazing eternal life can be. He died and came back to life so we’d know for sure that there’s more to our story than just this life.
Some people think when we die, we just disappear into nothing, but that’s not what the Bible says. God promises that He has a plan for us, even after we leave this life.
Whether someone ends up in Heaven or Hell, they’ll still be alive and aware. That’s because our souls are made to last forever, just like God planned from the beginning.
What about before we’re born? Some believe we exist somewhere else before coming to Earth. But the Bible doesn’t say that. Instead, it teaches that God knows everything about us even before we’re born.
He knows what our lives will be like and how we’ll grow. We’re not floating around somewhere before being born; God creates us carefully and with love, starting in our mother’s womb. “Your eyes have seen my formless substance; and in Your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” —Psalm 139:16 (NASB1995)
From the very first human God made, He gave us the breath of life. That’s when life begins—not before and not by accident. God’s creation is special and full of purpose, and that includes you!
