“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV

Our culture loves strength.

Be confident. Be sharp. Be productive. Be unbothered. Be the kind of person who looks like they have never had a hard day in their life. That is the message. Weakness, meanwhile, gets treated like a leak in the ceiling. Cover it up fast and hope nobody notices.

But God does not look at weakness the way the world does.

When Paul pleaded with the Lord about his suffering, Jesus did not say, “Try harder,” or “Get stronger and then come back.” He said, “My grace is sufficient for you.” Not barely enough. Not emergency rations. Sufficient. Enough for the burden, enough for the sorrow, enough for the limitation, enough for the thing that keeps reminding you that you are not as strong as you wanted to be.

That is a humbling word. It is also a freeing one.

We often think weakness disqualifies us from usefulness. God says weakness can become the very place where His power is seen most clearly. That does not mean weakness is pleasant. Paul was not pretending pain felt good. He was learning that the power of Christ rests on people who know they need Him. And honestly, most of us do not enjoy that lesson. We would rather look impressive than dependent.

But the Christian life has never been about appearing strong enough to manage life without help. It is about belonging to Christ, trusting Christ, and being carried by Christ.

Jesus did not come for the polished, self-sustaining, and inwardly untouchable. He came for the needy. He came for sinners. He came for people who run out of road and finally realize they cannot save themselves. At the cross, He did not display worldly strength. He displayed holy love, patient endurance, and saving power through suffering. And now the risen Christ meets His people in their weakness with sustaining grace.

So when you feel small, tired, limited, or worn thin, that is not proof that God has abandoned you. It may be the very place where He is teaching you to stop leaning so hard on yourself.

Your weakness is not bigger than Christ’s grace.

Bring Him the part of your life that feels thin, shaky, or unfinished. He is not embarrassed by your need. His power has a way of settling down right where your strength gives out.

Pray This

Lord Jesus, thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me. Teach me not to hide my weakness, but to bring it to You honestly. Let Your power rest on me where I feel small, tired, and unable. Help me trust You more than I trust myself. Amen.
