“Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.”
Romans 13:14 NLT

Every morning, we make choices about what to wear. Whether it’s a business suit, work boots, gym clothes, or a favorite T-shirt, our clothing says something about us. It communicates priorities, interests, and sometimes even our identity.

Paul uses a similar picture in Romans 13:14. He tells believers to “clothe” themselves with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.

That raises an important question: What are you dressing your mind with today?

Many of us are careful about our outward appearance but less intentional about what enters our thoughts. We scroll through social media, consume news, replay conversations, entertain temptations, or dwell on worries without realizing that these things are helping shape the clothes of our inner life.

Paul’s command is not merely to avoid sin. It is first to put on Christ.

Notice the order. He doesn’t say, “Stop sinning so you can come to Jesus.” He says, in effect, “Put on Jesus, and His presence will help you resist sin.” The Christian life is not won simply by trying harder. It is lived by staying close to Christ.

When you fill your mind with His Word, remember His promises, and walk in fellowship with Him, sinful desires lose some of their attraction. Light has a way of exposing what darkness once hid.

The world spends a great deal of energy trying to shape how people think. Advertisers, influencers, politicians, and entertainers all compete for space in our minds. But followers of Jesus are called to let Christ be the strongest influence in the room.

Before you face today’s challenges, take a moment to put on Christ. Let His truth shape your thinking. Let His mercy guide your responses. Let His character become visible in your actions.

The clothes you wear tell people something about you. The condition of your mind tells a much deeper story.

Dress for the day ahead by clothing yourself with Jesus Christ.

Pray This

Lord Jesus, help me clothe myself with Your presence today. Guard my mind from distractions, temptations, and influences that pull me away from You. Fill my thoughts with Your truth, my heart with Your love, and my actions with Your character. Help me walk closely with You so that others may see You reflected in my life. Amen.
