“The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.” Acts 1:7, NLT
I love inductive Bible study. Asking who, what, where, when, why, and how has opened up treasures in Scripture that I would have missed otherwise. God invites us to think, study, learn, and grow. Christianity is not a blind faith. It is a faith rooted in truth.
Yet there is a limit to what we can know.
When the disciples asked Jesus about the timing of God’s kingdom, they were asking a reasonable question. They wanted details. They wanted a timeline. They wanted clarity about the future.
Jesus did not give them the answer they were looking for.
Instead, He reminded them that some things belong to the Father’s authority and are not for them to know.
That response can be frustrating for people who love answers. Most of us would prefer a detailed map of tomorrow. We want to know why certain things happen, when God will act, and how every piece of our story fits together.
But Jesus points us toward something better than complete information. He points us toward trust.
The goal of Jesus’ ministry was not to answer every possible question. His mission was to bring us into a relationship with the One who has every answer. There is a difference.
Children often ask endless questions because they are trying to make sense of the world. Mature adults understand that some questions cannot be fully answered, yet life can still be lived with confidence. In a similar way, spiritual maturity means learning to rest in God’s wisdom even when His explanations remain hidden.
There is great freedom in admitting that we do not know everything.
God has revealed what we need to know for salvation, faith, and obedience. What He has kept hidden can safely remain in His hands.
Today, keep studying. Keep asking good questions. Keep digging into God’s Word. But when you reach the edge of what God has chosen to reveal, let trust take over where knowledge ends.
Jesus is enough, even when the answers are not.
Pray This
Father, thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Word and through Your Son. Help me to study diligently, think carefully, and grow in understanding. When I encounter questions I cannot answer, teach me to trust Your wisdom rather than demand my own certainty. Give me peace in what You have revealed and contentment in what You have not. Help me follow Jesus faithfully, even when I do not see the whole picture. Amen.
