“And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.”
Mark 5:24 NASB1995

Mark 5 is full of urgency.

Jairus is desperate because his daughter is dying. The disciples are surrounded by crowds. A woman who has suffered for twelve years quietly reaches for the hem of Jesus’ garment. Everything feels rushed, emotional, and pressing.

But one detail is easy to miss.

Most of these miracles happened on the way somewhere else.

Jesus was headed to Jairus’ house when the woman with the issue of blood was healed. Jairus probably wanted Jesus to ignore the crowd, skip the interruptions, and move faster. If we are honest, we probably would too. “Lord, can we stay focused on my emergency?”

Yet while Jairus was walking with Jesus toward one miracle, another miracle broke out beside the road.

That happens more often in Scripture than we notice.

Blind men cried out while Jesus passed by. Zacchaeus met Christ while Jesus was traveling through Jericho. The disciples saw provision, healings, and authority revealed while simply following Him from town to town.

Sometimes we become so focused on “getting a miracle” that we forget the deeper invitation is to walk with Jesus Himself.

We want the destination. Jesus often works in the direction.

Following Christ is not like ordering fast food at a drive-thru window where we pull up demanding spiritual nuggets and fries in ninety seconds or less. The Christian life is a road. A path. A daily walk.

And many times, the grace of God shows up while we are faithfully moving with Him.

Some believers become discouraged because they are waiting for one massive breakthrough while overlooking the smaller evidences of Christ’s presence happening all around them. A softened heart. Strength to endure another day. Wisdom during suffering. An unexpected conversation. A growing hunger for Scripture. Quiet peace replacing panic.

Those things matter too.

Jairus eventually discovered that Jesus was not delayed by interruptions. Jesus was Lord over the entire road.

And maybe that is the encouragement some of us need today.

Do not stop following Jesus just because you have not arrived at the place you hoped to reach yet. Stay near Him on the way. Keep walking in obedience. Keep listening. Keep trusting.

Because sometimes the miracle is not only waiting at the destination.

Sometimes it meets you on the road with Jesus.

Pray This

Lord Jesus, help me follow You faithfully even when I do not fully understand the timing of my life. Keep me from becoming so focused on outcomes that I miss Your presence along the way. Teach me to trust You on the road, in the waiting, and through every interruption. Open my eyes to the quiet ways You are working around me each day. Amen.
