What is it There-fore
If you’ve been to church long enough, you might have heard a preacher said, “When you see a ‘therefore’, you need to ask what’s before the ‘therefore’.
Some translations keep these transition words and it really does point to something ‘before’.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8v1-2 NKJV
The “before” was Paul’s words about living a life that was under the weight of the Law of God. We were living under sin and the Law kept pointing out our sin and condemning us because of it.
Sure, we deserved it, but it was something that was part of our very life and God sent His Son Jesus to make a difference.
Jesus, through His Life, Death and Resurrection gave those who believe in Him the opportunity to receive the forgiveness of their sins.
Sin can sound strange, but sin is our disobedience to God’s way of doing things. It turned out that no one can do it God’s way 100% of the time, well except for Jesus.
Jesus made a difference in how God judges us. He no longer judges us according to the Law…
Therefore… the is no condemnation to those who are in Jesus’s life. Instead, there is now a new Law.
Where the old Law brought Death, this new Law brings Life.
That new Law is called, “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus!” It’s a mouthful, but it describes exactly how God has brought us into this new Law.
Jesus lived as a perfect man. By dying for our sins, He made a way for new life. By resurrecting from the dead and ascending to heaven, He opened up an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to live in us and thru us.
If you have a life that is in Jesus, then remember, you are no longer condemned. Live a life that is pleasing to God and grow in your relationship with Him.
