“Furthermore, do you think we have invaded your land without the Lord’s direction? The Lord himself told us, ‘Attack this land and destroy it!’”
2 Kings 18:25 NLT

That statement should stop you in your tracks.

An enemy army stands at the wall, and instead of just threatening violence, they claim God sent them. Not just power… not just strategy… but divine authority.

It’s a lie—but it’s a dangerous one.

The king of Assyria wasn’t just trying to win a battle. He was trying to break the people from the inside. If he could convince them that God was against them, they would surrender without a fight.

Same tactic. Different century.

The enemy still whispers like that.

“This situation? God’s done with you.”

“That failure? Proof He’s not on your side.”

“That pressure? Must be judgment.”

And sometimes the lie even sounds… spiritual.

But Jesus already exposed this playbook. He said plainly that the devil “was a murderer from the beginning… and is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). That means when the enemy speaks, truth isn’t just bent—it’s absent.

Not slightly off. Completely false.

And here’s what makes it worse: the lie often borrows God’s language.

It sounds close enough to truth that if you’re tired, discouraged, or under pressure, it can slip in unnoticed. Like junk mail that looks official until you read the fine print.

But Jesus didn’t leave us guessing.

When He was tempted in the wilderness, Satan quoted Scripture. Twisted it. Weaponized it. And Jesus didn’t argue emotionally—He answered with truth (Matthew 4:1–11).

That’s your pattern.

Not panic. Not fear. Not trying to “figure it out” in your own strength.

Truth.

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). That means every lie gets exposed when it stands next to Him.

So when the enemy claims, “God sent this to destroy you,” you measure that against Christ.

Does that sound like the One who died to save you?

Does that sound like the Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep?

Or does it sound like a voice trying to wear God’s name while opposing God’s heart?

Prayer warrior, you don’t just fight battles—you discern voices.

And not every voice that mentions God comes from Him.

Stand your ground.

Pray This

Lord, sharpen my discernment. Help me recognize the voice of the enemy, even when it sounds spiritual. Anchor me in Your truth through Jesus, and give me boldness to stand firm when lies try to shake me. Amen.
