God Always Provides
Abraham knew that God always provides. When he was looking for a wife, God provided for him. When he needed to see his business grow, God provided him with wisdom and favor. When he goofed up, by telling a big lie (that Sarah was his sister), God provided her safety and him forgiveness.
Genesis 22:13-14
And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns.
And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of that place, “The LORD will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”
When he and his wife couldn’t have a child, God provided them with a son—Isaac! Wow, Abraham clearly understood God as provider.
God wasn’t finished. God told Abraham to take his son, Isaac, and sacrifice him. Abraham took his son, tied him up, placed him on the altar and raised the blade high.
“Stop,” the angel called out, “don’t harm the boy!” God provided Abraham with a ram to sacrifice. He took it and offered it up to God, calling the place, Jehovah-Jireh (The Lord who Provides).
Abraham didn’t doubt that God would provide him with a solution—if he obeyed. Do you sometimes find it hard to trust in God to provide for you? This story teaches us that God will always provide for those who believe and obey.
Abraham and his son always remembered that day whenever they passed the mount, Jehovah-Jireh.
