“Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared.”
Matthew 2:7 NLT
There is something almost ironic about this scene.
Herod was the king, yet he needed other people to tell him what was happening in his own kingdom. He called the wise men privately because he lacked information. He needed counselors. He needed updates. He needed help connecting the dots.
That is how every earthly ruler operates.
Presidents have advisors. CEOs have consultants. Coaches stare at clipboards while assistants whisper statistics into their ears. Even the smartest person in the room eventually says, “Can someone look that up for me?”
Human authority always has limits.
But Jesus is not like Herod.
Jesus never asked heaven for more information. He never paused in uncertainty. He never needed someone to explain the future to Him. Scripture says that Christ is the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24). He knows the hearts of men. He knows the end from the beginning. Nothing catches Him off guard.
That matters more than we realize.
Sometimes we panic because we cannot see what is ahead. We try to become our own little kings, managing every outcome, overthinking every conversation, refreshing the same bad news like somehow the tenth refresh will produce a miracle. Meanwhile, Jesus already sees clearly.
The King you follow is never confused.
He is not nervous about tomorrow. He is not gathering emergency meetings in heaven trying to figure out your situation. He is not pacing the floor because your life became complicated on Tuesday afternoon.
Christ rules with complete wisdom.
And because He does, you can trust Him even when your understanding feels painfully small. Faith does not mean you suddenly know everything. It means you trust the One who does.
Herod feared losing control because his throne was temporary.
Jesus has no such fear. His throne is eternal.
So rest your anxious heart there.
Pray This
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the perfect King who sees what I cannot see. When my mind becomes anxious and my understanding feels small, help me trust Your wisdom instead of my fear. Remind me that You are never confused about my future. Amen.
