“Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time.”
Romans 16:25 NLT

There is a scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring where Gandalf looks at Frodo and asks, “Is it secret? Is it safe?” The weight of that moment hangs in the air because everyone knows something powerful is being protected.

Romans 16 carries a different kind of mystery.

Paul says God had a plan “kept secret from the beginning of time.” But this was not the kind of secret meant to stay buried forever. God was not hiding salvation like a nervous man hiding cash under a mattress. He was unfolding redemption step by step through history until the right moment came.

Then Jesus arrived.

What generations could only glimpse through promises, sacrifices, prophets, and shadows was finally revealed in full. The mystery was not a code to crack. The mystery was Christ Himself.

And here is the beautiful part: the Gospel was revealed for Gentiles too. Outsiders. Foreigners. People far from the covenants of Israel. In other words, people like us.

Sometimes Christians quietly live as if they are still unwanted guests in God’s house. We pray nervously. We worship cautiously. We carry shame around like a backpack full of bricks, wondering if God is merely tolerating us.

But the cross says otherwise.

Jesus did not die to leave you standing outside the door squinting through the window. He brought you near. The “secret” has already been revealed publicly through Christ crucified and risen again.

Paul also says God is “able to make you strong.” That matters because many believers feel spiritually exhausted. Some are barely holding their faith together with what feels like duct tape and cold coffee. Yet the strength of the Christian life was never meant to come from personality, discipline, or emotional momentum. It comes from God through the Gospel.

The same God who revealed His plan through Jesus is still strengthening His people today.

So you do not have to wonder whether God’s mercy is hidden from you. In Christ, the answer has already been revealed.

Lord, thank You for revealing Your mercy through Jesus Christ. Thank You that I do not have to stand far away wondering if You want me near. Strengthen my heart through the Gospel today. Help me rest in what Christ has already accomplished for me on the cross. Amen.
