Christian Elementary School Introduction

Christian Elementary School Introduction

Get ready to get back to School. While I was reading the Bible, I realized that new Christians may have gone to Elementary School growing up. But what about when new believers become Born Again, there should be a

Christian Elementary School just for them.

While reading God’s Word, this idea came to life. Okay, here is what I read:

Hebrews 6:1-2

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

Wow, I have read this before. The writer of Hebrews was reminding this church that just as there is growth in their physical lives, there needs to be growth in their spiritual lives. This thought came to my mind:

What we know about Christ should, might or will produce growth.

Should

Knowledge itself does not produce growth. Knowing about Christ should produce growth but, spend enough time around Christians and you will quickly learn that growth is not a guarantee. It is the Spirit that makes alive (old King Jimmy, Quicketh).

Might

Exposure to good things can lead to good behaviors. So being exposed to Christ-centered teaching can rub-off onto people who are open to the morality or quality of the Christian life, but have yet to commit their whole lives to Jesus Christ. The Spirit is also needed to convict the individual of sin and lead them into a relationship with Christ, not a relationship with the quality of God’s good actions.

Will

A life yielded to Christ and exposed to His word through Bible reading and supplemental teaching, will produce a life filled with growth. In the beginning part of a Christian’s growth, the child like stage, the believer surrenders their life to Christ and by faith they are transformed from a soul far from God, to a child in God’s Kingdom.

This is the part that I am going to address in this weekly study. How can you grow in maturity in the Knowledge of God — learn the Basics. Jesus used the Parable of the Sower to explain how the Word of God is sown (built in, planted) into our lives.

So, what should every Christian know about God? Thankfully, the Bible verse above gives it to us. Let’s turn this verse into a list:

Christian Elementary School is now opened.

Curriculum Heading: What Every Christian Needs to Know to Grow.

    1. The Person of the Son of God

    1. Repentance from Dead Works

    1. Faith Toward God

    1. Instruction about Washings

    1. Laying on of Hands

    1. The Resurrection of the Dead

    1. Eternal Judgment

These are the Seven Basics from the above Bible and for how ever many weeks we will go over each part (preferably Seven weeks). Since we are studying God’s Word, I can’t expect everything to fit into a quick study, but we can break off little pieces until we’ve consumed the whole thing.

Who is Christian Elementary School for?

This study is for new believers who want to grow in their faith and become mature; and for believers who have not had a chance to catch up on their growth; and for mature believers who want to better articulate the fundamentals of their faith.

Let’s begin at Week One, Lesson One… The Person of the Son of God.

Enjoy!
