Eyes Full of Light

Eyes Full of Light

“Then Samson went down to Timnah and saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines. So he came back and told his father and mother, ‘I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.’” Judges 14:1-2

God gave us eyes to see the amazing world He made. But what we look at can change how we feel and act. Jesus said, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your body will be full of darkness” (Matthew 6:22-23). This means that what we focus on affects our hearts and minds.

In the Bible, Samson had a big problem with what he looked at. He saw a Philistine woman and decided he wanted to marry her, even though she wasn’t someone God wanted him to be with. Samson let his eyes guide him, and that first glance turned into trouble.

Instead of trusting God, Samson followed his feelings. He wanted what he saw so much that he forgot to ask if it was right. The Bible teaches us that when we let our wants take over, it can lead to bad choices. James 1:14-15 says, “Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own desire. Then, desire grows into sin, and sin brings death.”

Samson kept making choices based on what he wanted. He later met Delilah, another woman who wasn’t good for him. She tricked him, and Samson’s enemies captured him. They even blinded him. But something amazing happened. When Samson couldn’t see with his eyes anymore, he began to see with his heart.

Samson prayed to God for help, and God gave him strength one last time. He used that strength to defeat his enemies and save his people. Even though Samson made mistakes, God still used him.

This story reminds us that our eyes should stay focused on what is good and right. When we pay attention to God and His ways, we can make better choices and stay on the path He has for us. Let’s ask God to help us see with eyes full of light so we can live in His love and truth.
