“So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees.”
Hebrews 12:12 NLT
There are seasons when life does not just feel busy. It feels heavy.
Your hands are still doing what needs to be done, but they are tired. Your knees are still holding you up, but they feel weak. You keep showing up, praying, serving, working, caring, forgiving, trying again—and somewhere along the way your soul starts breathing like it just climbed three flights of stairs carrying groceries.
Hebrews 12 does not pretend the Christian life is easy. It speaks to people who are weary. People who have been disciplined, stretched, corrected, and trained by the Lord. People who are still in the race but may be tempted to slow down, drift, or collapse on the side of the road.
And then comes this call: take a new grip. Strengthen your weak knees.
That is not God saying, “Stop being tired.” It is not heaven yelling, “Rub some dirt on it and act spiritual.” Thankfully, God is a better Father than a bad gym coach.
This is a gracious invitation to receive strength again.
There is a kind of second wind Jesus gives to His people. Not the kind that makes life instantly easy. Not the kind that removes every burden before breakfast. But the kind that helps you stand when you thought you were done. The kind that steadies your heart when circumstances are still unsettled. The kind that reminds you, “I am not carrying this alone.”
Hebrews 12 begins by telling us to fix our eyes on Jesus, “the author and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:2). That matters. We do not strengthen our weak knees by staring at our weakness. We strengthen them by looking to the One who endured the cross for us.
Jesus knows what it means to suffer. He knows weariness. He knows pressure, rejection, sorrow, and pain. But He also knows resurrection. That means your tiredness is real, but it is not final.
So today, take the next step. Not every step. Not the whole five-year plan. Just the next faithful one.
Pray again. Apologize if you need to. Open the Bible again. Rest without guilt. Ask for help. Show up with the little strength you have, and trust Christ to supply what you do not.
Weak knees can still walk when Jesus is holding up the heart.
Pray This
Lord Jesus, I am tired, but I am not without hope. Strengthen my weak places today. Help me take a new grip, steady my heart, and keep walking with my eyes fixed on You. Give me grace for the next faithful step. Amen.
