“But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of men who believed now totaled about 5,000.”
Acts 4:4 NLT

Acts 4:4 is a simple verse, but it says a lot. People heard the message, and many believed. That is how God grows His people. He does it through the truth of the gospel.

The verse does not tell us that the apostles came up with a clever system or found the perfect way to impress a crowd. It says people heard the message and believed it. That matters. Christian growth does not begin with hype, pressure, or human talent at its best. It begins when God works through His Word and brings people to faith in Jesus Christ.

That is still true now.

We live in a time that loves visible results, fast numbers, and polished presentation. There is nothing wrong with doing things well, but Acts reminds us not to confuse polish with power. A shiny bucket still cannot make a plant grow. Only God gives life.

And He does.

When we trust in Christ, we grow. Sometimes that growth is sudden and easy to notice. Sometimes it is slower, like a tree putting roots down before anybody sees much above the ground. But if faith is in Jesus, God is at work. He is not just adding names to a list. He is saving sinners, building His church, and shaping His people.

That should steady us.

If you are sharing Christ, do not lose heart because growth feels slower than you want. If you are following Jesus yourself, do not despise small beginnings in your own life. God knows how to grow what belongs to Him. He has been doing that since the church began, and He has not misplaced that skill.

Jesus is still gathering people through His gospel. He is still able to save, strengthen, and mature those who believe. So stay near His Word. Trust His power. Leave room for God to do what only God can do.

Pray This

Lord Jesus, thank You for still saving and growing Your people. Help me trust Your Word, stay faithful in small things, and rest in Your power to bring real growth. Amen.
