“I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, dispersing them throughout the earth. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” Ezekiel 30:26 NLT

There is a phrase that appears again and again throughout Ezekiel: “Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

When we read those words, we often assume they are connected to salvation. Sometimes they are. But in many passages, including this one, the purpose is different. Egypt was not being gathered into God’s covenant people. Egypt was being judged.

God’s intention was that the Egyptians would come face to face with a reality they had ignored: there is one true God, and He is holy.

For generations, Egypt had trusted in its power, wealth, military strength, and false gods. It looked impressive from the outside. Yet God declared that its rebellion would not continue forever. Through judgment, the Egyptians would learn what they had refused to learn through humility.

That truth still speaks today.

Many people want a God who comforts but never confronts, who blesses but never judges. Yet the Bible presents a God who is perfectly loving and perfectly holy. His holiness is not a minor character trait. It is at the very center of who He is.

Think of a driver who ignores every warning light on the dashboard. The lights are not the problem. They are revealing a problem. In a similar way, God’s judgments reveal what is already true. He is the Creator, we are His creatures, and He alone has the right to define what is good and evil.

The good news is that God has not left us to discover His holiness through judgment alone. He has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. At the cross, we see both the seriousness of sin and the greatness of God’s mercy. The same God who judged Egypt offers forgiveness through His Son to all who will repent and believe.

Today, do not merely acknowledge God as helpful. Acknowledge Him as Lord. The goal of life is not simply to receive God’s blessings but to know Him, honor Him, and walk in humble obedience before Him.

Lord, You are holy, righteous, and worthy of all honor. Forgive me for the times I have treated You casually or forgotten Your authority over my life. Help me to walk in reverence, humility, and obedience. Thank You for revealing Yourself through Jesus Christ and for offering mercy where judgment is deserved. Teach me to know You more deeply and to live in a way that honors Your name. Amen.
