God’s Property

God’s Property

Ephesians 1:13-14

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Purchasing a home requires a healthy supply of money. Every part of the home-buying process requires money, but nothing is as large as the Down Payment. The buyer gives most of her savings to the bank as a guarantee that the rest of the borrowed money will be paid back over the next 30 years. In Ephesians 1:13-14 Paul tells us about God’s down payment—the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit in our lives is a constant reminder that God still has more work to do in our lives. God isn’t finished building into our lives the character that reflects His own. Knowing that we have a guaranteed inheritance can alleviate certain worries about our future. Not that we have license to live our lives in contrary to God’s laws, but that we are free to focus on how to please Him.

Have confidence in this: God will finish the good work He has started in your life. How do you know this? The Holy Spirit—the guarantee—lives in you! You are God’s property.
