Ask God

God wants you to Ask Him

Knowing who we were and what God has saved us from makes us so grateful that we don’t ask God for more. Or sometimes we think that asking God will set us up for failure when He doesn’t come through with the answer we are expecting.

Yet, God wants us to ASK Him for what we need and desire!

Jesus said we should ask and keep asking.

The New Living Translation captures the original greek language best in Matthew 7:7-8:

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Why does God want to give us those things we ask for?

Jesus continued in verse 9-11:

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

God loves us so much that He already gave us the most precious and valuable gift, His One and Only Son, Jesus. God wants us to ASK Him, not just once, but often. Keep asking until He gives you an answer. Asking God builds our faith and confidence in who He is and what He can do.

This time of prayer and fasting is an excellent time to get before God and start asking.

You will see that the more you ask, your requests will get clearer and more focused. James 4:2 warns us to ask with a godly focus, but also encourages us to ask God for the things we need.

Here is a short list of what to Ask God for:

Salvation of Others
Your desire for the lost, including those closest around you, is something God wants you to Ask Him for. Ask God for the salvation of Husbands, wives, children, relatives, neighbors, friends, co-workers.

Church Leadership

God wants us to ask on behalf of those individuals who have dedicated their lives to leading the church. They are at the forefront of spiritual warfare and spiritual/physical exhaustion. Ask God on their behalf for strength, finances, husband and wife unity, clarity of purpose, salvation for their children and family members.

God’s Mercy

Our world needs God to show more Mercy on His people and those who are running away from Him. It is hard to understand but there comes a time when God takes action because of the cry of His people.

Psalm 34:17 When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.

Next Steps

During this time of prayer and fasting take time to contemplate on these questions:

  • What has God done in my life this past year?
  • What does God want for my life this year?
  • What does God want me to ask Him for this year?

Write down any answers that you get, evaluate and then come up with a plan for 2014

Keep on Asking God

Asking God builds our faith and His word tells you what He will do for you:

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
